Young Thomas Rattigan - Anton Paszek
Crying during the anthem while dancing in the aisle
Young Thomas Rattigan was such a noisy child
His mother would cry for her loss of sleep
"Oh Thomas stop, not one more peep!"
"Young Thomas Rattigan, you're such a noisy child!"
His teacher would scream at the young child standing single file
"Oh Thomas stop, not one more peep!"
But Thomas, not long, did the classroom keep
His teacher would scream at the children standing single file
"Where is Thomas Rattigan, so young and so wild?"
But Thomas' secret, not long did the classroom keep
As it happens, first graders are very cheap
"Where is Thomas Rattigan, so young and so wild?"
"Crying during the anthem while dancing in the aisle"
As you know, first graders are very cheap
And Thomas' mother would cry for her loss of sleep

This is a poem about a young child who seems to be causing quite the issues with his mother and in school. His friends are "cheap" and rat him out, although I am confused as to what his secret is? I like the poem, but I think that there are too many words in the second line of the second stanza, and that saying that first graders are cheap implies that one can buy a first grader (I have one for sale, if anyone is interested).
I really like this poem. It is amusing and tells a nice story with the rhyme. It almost reminds me of a children's book illustrated by Robert Munsch. My one critique would be "His teacher would scream at the young child standing single file" is such a long line it kind of messes with the rhythm.
